Delete your account and data

How to request deletion of your Afterroll account and its associated data.

Afterroll is operated by Matthias Schönborn. This page explains how to request deletion of your Afterroll account and the data associated with it, which data is deleted, and which data we keep for a limited time for legal reasons.

Delete directly in the app (recommended)

The fastest way is through the Afterroll app:

  • Open the Afterroll app and sign in to your account.
  • Open the Profile tab and tap Settings.
  • Scroll to the Account section and tap Delete account.
  • Confirm the safety prompt with Delete account.

Your account is deactivated immediately, your profile data is removed, and your content is taken out of active serving.

Request deletion by email

If you no longer have access to the app, you can also request deletion in writing:

  • Send an email to dev@afterroll.app.
  • Where possible, use the email address you signed up with and include your display name so we can identify your account securely.
  • Example subject: "Delete account".

Alternatively, you can use the support form and select Account as the topic. We process deletion requests without undue delay, and within 30 days at the latest. For a written request we may ask for proof that the account belongs to you.

What data is deleted

When your account is deleted, it is deactivated and, in particular, the following data is removed or anonymized:

  • Profile data: display name, email address, profile picture, sign-in identifier, and push token are removed or anonymized.
  • Your photos: photos you uploaded are taken out of active serving and marked for deletion.
  • Your albums: albums you created are taken out of active serving and marked for deletion.
  • Other account data: album memberships, reactions, notification settings, submitted feedback, and internal purchase mappings are deleted.

What data is retained and for how long

We keep some data for a limited time after account deletion, where necessary for security, recovery, abuse prevention, or to meet legal obligations:

  • Technical backups and logs may persist for a limited period, typically up to 90 days, and during that time are used only for recovery, security, and legal defense before being overwritten.
  • Purchase and transaction data from in-app purchases may be retained by the Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat, as well as by us, to meet statutory retention and record-keeping obligations — in particular for billing, refunds, and tax purposes (up to 10 years under German law).
  • Moderation and report data may be retained to the extent necessary for legal defense or to meet legal obligations.

Please note: deleting your account does not automatically trigger a refund of an in-app purchase. We cannot retroactively delete photos that other authorized album participants have already viewed, downloaded, or stored outside of Afterroll.

For more details on processing and your rights, see our privacy policy. If you have questions, you can reach us any time at dev@afterroll.app.
